The Museum Out Back
Saturday, May 21, 2024

I was living in some weird big house, as you do in dreams, and there was a party being held. I went back to my bedroom to ensure party guests didn't go snooping, perhaps to hang a sign on the door.

No sooner did I enter the room, however, than several people followed behind me. They were led by none other than a crafting streamer I follow (lol?), who was in this case a sort of mix between The Doctor (Doctor Who), Dirk Gently (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency), and Ms. Frizzle (The Magic School Bus). Obviously in charge, she wouldn't take "please leave" for an answer, because apparently my bedroom was somehow an entrance to a funky museum they wanted to visit.

With little choice, I followed them to a back wall of my room, which opened into a small bowling alley. However much of it had been built over, I guess for the museum in question, and only one hidden, oddly angled lane remained. It was not revealed how you were to bowl down this bent lane.

Beyond the bowling alley lay the museum, which never had a name given. The entry "fee" as such was merely a toy or other trinket worth trading. The museum itself was more of a hands-on type place, with loads of trinkets and goodies apparently for the taking (including things like bracelets, keychains and various toys--a favorite of mine being the plastic replica weapons like axes and swords).

There was also all the McDonald's fries, burgers, and cheeseburgers you could ever want, in big bins much like the freebie trinkets. I was afraid to eat the fries because all I could think of was all the grubby little kid hands that had been in the bins.

At one exhibit shelf there were miniature living birds that were happy to perch on your fingers. Then they were revealed to be holograms, I guess along the lines of Rimmer from Red Dwarf in later seasons—that is, solid to the touch and thinking on their own.

Soon everything was closing, the goodie bins covered by sheets and the lights turned down. There was supposed to be some sort of show at the end of the day, but I woke up before I could see what it was.
