Simple Southern Dump Cake
an easy recipe that's nearly impossible to mess up, we used to make this cobbler-like dessert for potlucks!
Ingredients
• 2 cans pie filling of choice¹
• 1 box yellow cake mix²
• 1 1/2 sticks of butter, sliced thin
• chopped nuts of choice (optional)
Directions
➀ Preheat oven to 350°F.
➁ Grease a 9x13 inch glass baking pan.
➂ Evenly layer fruit filling in pan. You can mix or layer if you use two different fruits!
➃ Shake cake mix over fruit, covering as evenly as possible.
➄ Top cake mix with thin slices of butter; this will melt into the mix as it bakes.
➅ If adding nuts, sprinkle them evenly over the top of the cake now.
➆ Bake for 40 minutes.
➇ Serve while still warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!
Notes
➀ Feel free to experiment with other fruits; you can even mix and match! Peaches in heavy syrup, blueberry pie filling, apple pie filling (or make your own!), et cetera. I recommend the combination of a can of crushed pineapple and a can of cherry pie filling.
➁ This is traditionally made with yellow cake mix, but white/vanilla will work as well—you can even use chocolate!
➂ Refrigerate any leftovers for later. It's still good cold, but you can also microwave it for a few seconds to reheat it!
