Oatmeal Crispies (Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies)
family recipe that dates back to at least my grandma, if not my great-grandma! These are seriously my all-time favorite cookies and my family even used to ask me to make them every time I came home to visit! Everyone who tries them seems to love them and I'm sure you will, too.❤️

Ingredients
• 1 cup shortening
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1 ½ cup flour
• 1 tsp salt
• 1 tsp [baking] soda
• 3 cups old fashioned cooking oats
• chocolate chips
• raisins¹

Directions
➀ Thoroughly cream shortening & sugars.²
➁ Add eggs & vanilla, beat well.
➂ Add dry ingredients.
➃ Add oats, raisins and chocolate chips.³
➄ Mix well, shape into rolls, wrap and chill.⁴
➅ Bake on ungreased cookie sheet, 350°F for 10 minutes.⁵

Notes Because Old Recipe Is Old
➀ Chocolate chips, raisins, and even your choice of chopped nuts can be included in this recipe in any combination you want. Don't like raisins? Leave them out! Just want raisins? That's fine too!
➁ "Cream" just means blend it good with a blender.
➂ By this point the dough gets very, very thick, and you'll probably have to resort to mixing by hand with a spoon, or straight up mixing it by hand (wash 'em good first!).
➃ This means make the dough into logs you can slice into cookie sized pieces later. Wrap them with plastic wrap and stick them in the fridge. You can keep them refrigerated for several days or even freeze the dough for later use!
➄ Don't overcook! Ideally you want your cookies to come out chewy (and gooey while hot!). The oatmeal still gives them a great crisp.
