Miitomo, Nintendo's very first app for Android and iOS devices, launched in March 2016. Players created (or imported from their My Nintendo account) a 3D talking, walking avatar called a Mii, through which you could communicate with friends by answering various questions, such as favourite foods or current interests. There was of course virtual currency with which you could buy clothes and accessories for your Mii, and a game (Miitomo Drop) where you could win exclusive clothes, accessories, and wallpaper and flooring to decorate your Mii's room.
And then there was my personal favorite feature, the MiiFotos, where you could choose a premade background or from your own photos, then choose from a bunch of poses and expressions for your Mii, which was inserted into the photo. You could add premade stamps of various types and whatever text you wanted as well, then save and share your image with your friends. I shared mine on Instagram, which thankfully meant I was able to recover mine from an old account! Honestly MiiFotos helped me a bit through the death of my best friend, oddly enough, which leads me to the main purpose of this shrine, to archive and share my MiiFotos.
Sadly, the Miitomo servers were shut down in May 2018, just over two years after it debuted. Despite having explosive popularity when it first launched, it seems that the active playerbase shrunk substantially and fairly quickly. I think I mostly stopped playing because none of my friends were playing anymore. I think it's a shame, and personally would have liked to see more features released, like maybe saving video clips or gifs of the animations from the MiiFotos feature.
There is a fan service that patches the game and lets it run, albeit missing some features. But you can still make a Mii, get clothes, play Miitomo Drop, and make MiiFotos, which is the important part for me! Saving the photos doesn't seem to function though, sadly, so if you play, make sure to screenshot your MiiFotos before closing!
